PROJECTS: COLOMBIA: Barrio Triste

Barrio Triste (Sad Neighborhood) as is commonly known, is a small neighborhood situated at the center of the city of Medellin, Colombia. While in recent years the city has undergone an urban revitalization after decades of crime and violence, areas of the city are threatened by gentrification and neighborhoods like Barrio Triste are destine to disappear. This once prosper residential neighborhood, named The Sacred Heart of Jesus, has been ousted by repair shops, warehouses and bars. Its bleak streets and dilapidated buildings are used by mechanics and technicians at day and inhabited by displaced families, homeless, sex-workers and drug addicts at night.
